Metropolitan Pavilion
An Eco-Friendly Event Space

The Metropolitan Suite's custom-colored chocolate oak wood floor consists of FSC-certified (Forest Stewardship Council) raw materials from sustainably-harvested forests and is produced without the use of insecticides or laminating adhesives. The lobby and restroom area tiles are certified zero-VOC emission (volatile organic chemicals), contain 42.5% pre-consumer recycled content, and offer a wood-like look without felling any trees. The manufacturer reuses solid material from their waste water, obtains their quartz, a key item in the manufacture of porcelain tile, as waste product from glass manufacturers, and reuses all their production waste in new products. The kitchen and the hallway flooring includes BioStride, a LEED-compliant rapidly renewable US-grown plant ingredient ("taking less than 10 years to grow [and] harvested...in a sustainable fashion," source: USGBC LEED-NC reference guide). It is certified as a low-VOC emission item and has 0% PVC and plasticizers, thus eliminating petroleum-based content common in regular tiling.

The room's low-voltage LED lighting reduces energy consumption. Metropolitan Pavilion is a participant of an energy curtailment program working with the NY Independent Systems Operators (NYISO), and is a Green Power Partner with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
